WARNING: this is not an article on entrepreneurship, ‘how to’ build a ChatGPT empire, or whether or not Bitcoin has ‘peaked’ (akin to the author’s athletic abilities in high school).

The Inspiration

I started a new job a few months ago.

Starting anything new can be overwhelming.

I tend to cope by sprinting in all possible directions, just to figure out where to start.

Ironic and unsustainable.

The Innovation

I was starting to spiral, so I consulted with my awesome therapist.

She advised that I take a step back and ask myself:

“If I was managing someone who came to me overwhelmed, how would I help them?”

I laid out an empathetic and logical list of ideas, to which my therapist responded:

“Great – now schedule the time to do this for yourself.”

I did. And now I feel re-centered.

The Action

If you find yourself in a similar spiral, set aside the time to ask yourself:

  • Where is all this stress coming from?”
  • What are all the things I feel like I need to get done?”
  • Why is each thing on that list important?”

And, now that a baseline is set…

  • “What is on my list that actually has nothing to do with what I want or need to achieve?”

Put those things to the side and focus your energy on what’s most important right now.

The Debrief

It’s normal to lose focus amidst chaos. Just reset and adapt.

Be the ‘cool, calm, and collected’ mentor for yourself that you would want to have or be to others.

Give it a shot. I would love to hear how it goes.

Until next time, remember: YOU GOT THIS.
